The building is a brick-vaulted structure that weaves through a heritage site. It turns, wraps, and loosely enclose itself, creating a background for an art performance. One must simply take the stage and begin their art!
It breathes into itself, modulating together to enlarge or enclose a space in an unconventional way; rather than separating one room from another with a wall, the enclosed vaults are separated by courtyards and pathways. A gentle pause, a palette cleanser for the guests viewing each set of artworks in the space. Simply, it’s an endless circulating path encouraging visitors to get lost, meander, and explore the possibilities of the architecture.
The bare, brick-vaulted structure serves as a backdrop for performances. The turning floor plan allows for three distinct performance spaces:
- Garden of Frames: A delicate arrangement of brick frames, gently turning in and out, providing an intimate setting for a solo performance or a space to showcase sculptures.
- Sunken Theatre: A bold venue designed for grand, daring performances and for dreamers with big ideas and bigger acts!
- Speaker’s Courtyards: A space for close interactions with the audience, fostering more intimate connections between the artist and the audience.
The Performing Courtyards serves as an eccentric space for artists to explore, ruminate, and showcase their work as freely as they would like to.
